The Epek XC3 broadhead is a new, innovative and devastating one of a kind broadhead

The reason that it is a one of a kind broadhead, is because of its total blade concealment design. They have done something that nobody else has been able to accomplish, and that is true field point accuracy. Many claim to have field point accuracy. They also have explained that once you have sighted your bow in for the broadhead, they should be grouping as tight as your field points do. They fail to mention that what they call field point accuracy does not necessarily mean that the broadhead will hit in the same place as their field points. The sleek body design is the key. When one looks at the Epek XC3, it makes sense to them on the complete accuracy that this broadhead promises. The broadheads look just like a longer style field point. None of the blades have anything protruding out of the head where wind currents and drafts can be an effect. The blades are totally concealed to promote accuracy. As most if not all broad heads are deadly hunting tools when contact to the vitals is made, the Epek XC3 has an accuracy level that the other broadhead companies cannot boast. At Epek Hunting, they have determined that the most accurate broadhead that works, is the best broadhead. It doesn't matter how sharp the blades are or how devastating a broadhead looks if it is not accurate then there isn't much in it. A poor placed shot causing undue stress to an animal or a failure to add to his demise because of inaccuracy is unacceptable in their eyes. When the bow sting is released after holding solid on the object or target, one should not have to worry about their broadhead being the reason for a miss or a misplaced shot. With the Epek XC3, that is not a worry.

As for how the mechanics of the Epek XC3 broadhead makes it different are simple as well. Many of the expandable heads or mechanical heads have blades that have some part of the blade that sticks out to catch hide or skin as the head enters the animal and the blades are each individually opened with the contact from the hide. The Epek XC3 has an open on contact head but the actuator is the shroud of the head. Epek has made this a two part head. The inner piece has the blades fixed to it with some small set screws. No springs are used. The blade has a little tip that sticks out to the outside with only about a 1/32 of an inch protruding. Just enough for the outer shroud to sit against in the ready position. Just below the blade triggers and shroud lies an O ring. The O ring does not hold any blades in place or have anything to do with keeping the head in tact other than for the purposes of friction. If the O ring was not placed in a slight groove to provide friction and tension, the shroud would be allowed to press backwards with inertia at the release of the bow string. The O ring gives it just the right amount of tension to keep the head from opening in flight but allow it to open on contact. As the tip of the head makes contact with whatever it comes in contact with, it pushes the shroud back and causes all three blades to open at once. They fold back very rapidly as the head enters the target whatever it might be. The blades are opened to a 1.7 cutting diameter causing great amounts of laceration.

Although they cut very well with the ultra sharp blades and huge cutting diameter, the thing that has made the Epek XC3 so unique is the accuracy. So many of the fixed blade head shooters have had a very difficult time tuning their bow to their broad heads with the new ultra fast bows. In conjunction with the new bows and the difficulty in getting accurate flight patterns, the broadhead companies have shortened the overall length of the fixed blade heads giving them a much steeper angle on the blades. They have not been able to get the large cutting diameter like the mechanical heads without sacrificing accuracy. Those that have shot many of the other mechanicals have found a much more true flight than the fixed blade shooters but still have a tendency to fly a bit different than their field tips. A cross wind can be devastating to any head that has anything hanging out there to catch wind current. Simple physics can prove that the least amount of items hanging out there is going to allow the best flight. Epek Hunting has taken that to the next level by introducing such a head that looks just like a field point, thus flies just like a field point.
